Chapter 16
When I woke up, I immediately realized where I was. I sat up slowly in Chino’s bed. I had a splitting headache and I could barely breathe because my body hurt so bad. I witnessed everyone that was in the room had an expression on their faces. My sister was sitting over in the corner crying her heart out. Chino was by the bedroom door with fire in his eyes. I knew he was ready to go out and do something stupid. I had to talk his ass down. I didn’t need him acting on his emotions. I needed him on his A game.
Nick was standing in front of the door with a sad look on his face. I knew he was trying to keep his cousin in the room. My girls were sitting on the bed staring at me like I was some kind of freak show. I knew I had to look like crap. I just didn’t know to what extent. I knew my right eye was closed because I couldn’t see out of it. I raised my hand to feel the damage that was done.
“Boo no don’t.” Corine said.
“I need to figure out how bad it is! Unless you’re going to get me a mirror so I can see how bad it is for myself? If not, shut up. By the way everyone is looking at me I can tell it has to be bad. I know not one of you are going to let me look in the mirror!” I said. I continued to feel around my face then I raised my hand to my head ‘cause that was where the worse pain was. After I ran my hand around my head, I pretty much had a good idea about how bad my wounds were. I closed my one good eye and a tear escaped and rolled down my cheek. I needed a sec to get a hold of myself. My shit was wrapped in bandages. I must’ve had a huge gash on my head from him beating me with his gun. Once I was done feeling the damage, I looked over toward my sister. She was fucked up behind this and it wasn’t her fault this happened.
“Come here sis,” I reached my arms out for her to come to me. She needed some comforting. Her damn crying was giving me an even bigger headache. She crawled in bed with me, and I held her until she calmed down.
“You did a good job; this is not your fault. Who did you call to come get us?” I asked.
“I called Wise. I knew I should have called him instead of you. Look what happened. This would’ve never happened if I would’ve called him first.” she said.
“It’s alright; I’m happy you called me. I see you weren’t tripping after all. You did good. I’m not placing any blame on you,” I said. Everyone stood around not saying a word.
*****
Nica had fallen asleep in my arms. I looked over toward Chino for some help.
